The European Union would like as a request of parties to launch new ideas in order to promote quicker settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Roland Kobia told journalists on Wednesday. "We of course support all objectives of the Minsk Group and we would like also as a request of parties to launch new ideas in order to promote quicker settlement of the conflict," he said.

OSCE to monitor contact line between Armenian, Azerbaijani armies

Monitoring will be held on the contact line between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces in the north-east of the Horadiz village in the Azerbaijani Fuzuli region on Feb.8, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend on Tuesday. The monitoring will be held on the Azerbaijani side by the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Personal Representative Andrzej Kasprzyk's field assistant Antal Herdich and personal assistant William Pryor.

Armenian Armed Forces violated ceasefire 87 times last month

The Armenian Armed Forces violated ceasefire regime in Karabakh front and Armenia-Azerbaijan state border 87 times in January this year. According to the results of APA’s monitoring based on the official reports of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry that no loss was recorded as a result f ceasefire violation last month. But one soldier of Azerbaijani Army was taken captive last month. In January the ceasefire was violated most of all in Aghdam region (27 incidents). The ceasefire was violated for 23 times in Terter, 18 times in Fuzuli.

Red Cross employees visit Azerbaijani POW in Nagorno-Karabakh

Employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Azerbaijani POW kept in Nagorno-Karabakh on Feb.2, the ICRC Baku Office Spokesperson Shahla Gahramanova told Trend. She said the ICRC employees delivered a "Red Cross" letter to the POW, and received a "Red Cross" letter from him. The POW's family was informed about the meeting. Junior sergeant of Azerbaijani Armed Forces Mammadbagir Akhundzade was captivated near the Yukhary Chayli village on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops. Azerbaijani Defense Ministry also confirmed the fact.

Speaker: Azerbaijan to seek legal means to remove France from OSCE Minsk Group

France has lost the moral, rather than the legal right to the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group, speaker Oktay Asadov said at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Parliament on Wednesday. "We must determine the legal means of removing France from the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group," he said. "This issue does not depend on our wishes." MPs voiced the initiative to exclude France from the OSCE Minsk Group to resolve the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as a sign of protest against the law criminalising the denial of the so-called "Armenian genocide" adopted by France.

We often communicate and I consider that we will have a good cooperation with the Azerbaijani officials in the fields of human rights and implementation of democratic reforms.
